Allergy-Friendly Bakery in Boston Area?

I’m wondering if any of you have a resource for an allergy-friendly bakery in the Boston area?

This email below comes from an AG reader:

“My parents actually were the ones scouting bakeries for my wedding a few months back. (I’m allergic to allergic to soy, legumes, nuts, tree nuts, shellfish, eggs, alcohol, yeast and all fruit.) I know that two of the bakeries that my parents went to said that they did not want to "compromise" the name of their bakery by making a cake that would not have all of the ingredients that they usually put in and didn't want people eating that at the wedding and having their reputation for tasty cakes ruined.”

Please let me know your Boston area suggestions so perhaps this reader can have an allergy-friendly cake for her first anniversary.

The Hippie Chick bakery http://www.hippiechickbakery.com/ is apparently a peanut and treenut free facility. Also, CeliaCakes http://www.celiacakes.com/ specializes in gluten free cakes.

There is "Kickass Cupcakes" in Somerville.

There's Hippie Chick Bakery in NH, about 1 hour away.

I don't know if they'll be able to help or are good or anything - but it's a start!

I don't have any suggestions, but the attitudes of those bakeries is just horrible. I've always wanted to open an allergy-friendly bakery just to prove that you can have good baked goods, cakes, etc. without having to use the traditional (and to be snotty--easy) ingredients. Most anyone can make a cake with wheat and sugar, but what about when you really have to get creative?

I hope you find something that will work for you!

I think Hippie Chick now does custom orders only, but I have heard wonderful things about them. There are a couple peanut/nut free bakeries north of Boston, but I I have not tried them yet. I am familiar with A & J Bakery in RI--it is immaculate. The owners are very involved in the business and easy to reach. They are extremely committed to the safety of their customers and offer dairy and egg free on request. Given their attention to details, cleanliness, and strict avoidance of cross-contamination, I think they would be an excellent place to start. www.aandjbakery.net

Don't know about bakeries in Boston (other than Divvies of course). Just wanted to add to your NYC restaurant list - Big daddy's diner - check it out, great for our FA kid!

You might try Blacker's Bake Shop (formerly Bod'havi) in Newton. They are Kosher parve, so no dairy, and no nuts/tree nuts. I don't know if they can bake without eggs, but it's worth a shot.

I would also suggest Diamond Baking Co. They customize cakes for those with allergies. I know they can do no wheat, soy, dairy, eggs, nuts, etc. They do wedding cakes as well. Oh and they are in Danvers. Good luck!
