Allergic Girl News

So here we are in year two at Please Don’t Pass The Nuts and it’s already started off with a bang!

I already mentioned that I had the pleasure of being part of an expert allergy panel on Fordham’s own WFUV 90.7 which will be airing THIS SATURDAY, September 29, 2007 at 7:30am. It will be available as a podcast as well through their WFUV website and on iTunes under "Cityscapes". A friend of the family already heard a promo with my voice--crazy!

Then there was a lovely review of this blog by the Wall Street Journal! Woo hoo!

And after trying out a few different things, I’ve decided that this site will focus on food allergies, for real, in a concentrated effort to help all of you like me who are trying to get something yummy and allergen-free to eat in New York City and elsewhere. [However, I'm really tempted to break my own rule and write about last night's Pygmallion with Claire Danes. So much for rules].

But I have changed the tag line under the PDPTN banner to reflect this new initiative: “Eating one allergy-free meal at a time, baby”! (The baby is implied.)

Enjoy!

But wait, there's more news coming, v. soon!

Congrats on the WSJ review and the radio show. I look forward to seeing what you write about next and I'm looking forward to your "news"! Your blog is a gem :)

Hi! I just discovered your blog and I really appreciate what you're doing with it. I am also severely allergic to nuts, live in New York, and am trying to find the right places/foods to eat so I don't have reactions. Have you found any nut-free bakeries in the city? Anyway, keep up the great work!

thanks righterlady!

hey lizzie, thanks for stopping by...as for nut free bakeries, i cannot recommend babycakes. here's some history on my experiences there. http://allergicgirl.blogspot.com/2007/01/babycakesnyc.html

truthfully, i find it easier and more controlled to use a nutfree mix like Cherrybrook Kitchen. i'm also gonna try Namaste mixes soon and will write about them.

if you run across any bakeries i'd love to hear about them though!

Congratulations, this is all really great news. And I still don't know how you do it. I'm right now trying to go dairy free as well as gluten-free and, man, it's hard....

thanks jennifer!

and you're right, it is really hard. at first. but it gets better and easier, especially if dairy is making you ill in any way.

i cut it out for almost two years. then at the suggestions of my docs, discovered that i was indeed lactose intolerant.

so know i know i can have lactaid milk in my tea which is all i really want. i wouldnt go back to fro-yo or ice cream, or lactaid ice cream b/c to much sugar [which gets my tum as well].

i say keep going, it takes a while to cut it out but if dairy is giving you trouble it's worth it to feel better!
