Hooray! We are planning just such a trip. Loved reading the WFD story. I never thought I'd be so jealous of someone's gluten-free options! Sounds like they found great places... and even a bakery.

We juggle peanut-free, dairy-free, and egg-free which usually makes wait staff look at us with an urge to faint. I'll certainly be contacting you through the site for tips!

a timely post, as I'm currently planning a trip to NYC. But I have so many dietary restrictions, I really can't eat in restaurants. I'm staying in a apartment-style hotel room, cooking for myself, and dragging a cooler bag with me through Manhatten. I figure it's comparable to weight lifting :)

Just have to say we had our NYC trip this weekend. The absolute hit of the weekend was Dos Caminos. (We went twice.) They were AMAZING with my son's allergies. The manager talked with us and checked in repeatedly. The chef rechecked allergies even with the written card I'd given. The waitstaff identified allergens that were in foods that my son wasn't even going to eat. The allergies were printed on the call slip and were rechecked when the food was delivered. He had his first ever tortilla chips with salsa and guacamole and chicken tacos (with no cheese) and rice. We were all THRILLED. THANK YOU!

We did also try Better Burger. Things were fine with the burger and roll but the staff seemed confused when we asked questions about the fries and they ended up having a big discussion amongst themselves as to whether or not they were safe for us so we had to pass. The particular location we went to didn't seem very knowledgeable about food allergies. My son liked his burger, but just a burger isn't much food for a dinner!
